The Cost of Wedding Photography

5th July 2012 Our Wedding Memories

If there is one thing to be certain of with weddings, it is that they are expensive. One aspect of a wedding, which can turn out to be quite costly depending on the choices made, is the photography. The good thing about wedding photography nowadays is that it is a buyer's market, as there are so many photographers to choose from. You could select a new up and coming photographer whose prices will be quite reasonable, all the way up the highly experienced professionals who could charge a four figure sum or more for their services.

There are a number of price levels to go for, which are outlined below.

It might be unexpected, but there is actually a cost free way to approach wedding photography and that is to recruit a friend or a family member to do it for you for free. This would be ideal for those organising their wedding on a shoe string budget, and especially for those who know someone who is relatively good at taking pictures. However, there are of course drawbacks to this, one of which is that you are not guaranteed a professional looking result. There are many things that can go wrong with a free photographer, such as the malfunction of equipment, which would not happen with a paid photographer.

Next on the price scale are the budget photographers who will charge the cheapest price. People often associate cheap with bad quality, but sometimes you will find some excellent lower costing wedding photographers. These might charge anywhere from £300 to £500, or perhaps less if you are lucky. With this option you will be only getting the basic essentials, but it is a good choice for those who need to keep their expenses to a minimum.

If you have a moderate sum to put to your wedding photography you can expect to possibly spend between £700 and £1,000. With this kind of a deal you will get more hours out of the wedding photographer as well as more options included in the package, great for those who want more choice than the basic photos.

The next level is the upper middle range, which will suit those with a larger budget for their wedding. If you are seeking something extra special without completely breaking the bank then this is the price range to opt for. Upper middle range wedding photographers can charge anywhere from just under £2,000 all the way up to £3,000. In this price range the photographer will be available for the entire day, and you might even be able to get two photographers working at your wedding, making for the best possible results.

Finally, for the wedding where money is no object, you can go for the high end and most expensive photographer. With this you will truly be getting something special and will be guaranteed wonderful results, since you will be forking out between £5,000 and £10,000 or more. In this package you will get all the bells and whistles, making for the most memorable and beautiful wedding photographs.
